Where to stay and how to get there

We are arranging an accommodation package for guests at local inns in Lunenburg. As soon as we receive your RSVP (email: wedding [at] canadazone [dot] com) we’ll be in touch with the details.

Lunenburg also has a number of Bed & Breakfast establishments and cottage rentals if that is to your liking. If you plan to bring or rent a car, you won’t be bound to the town itself but may want to check out Inns or B&Bs in nearby places such as Mahone Bay.

The weather in Lunenburg at the beginning of September is difficult to nail down. Sunny afternoon temperatures could be in the 30s Celsius (80s F). Cloudy mornings and evenings could be as low as 13 C (55 F). Rain is always a possibility on the South Shore in late summer. Pack (or shop) accordingly.

Shuttle service will be provided between Lunenburg town and the
Reception on Second Peninsula on the day of the wedding.

Getting to Lunenburg

By Air
via Halifax
If you plan on flying to the wedding (on a plane, of course), you’ll want to book your flight into Halifax Stanfield International Airport.

Yes, Porter Airlines has direct flights from Toronto Island Airport to Halifax. They often come up with great deals, and they’ve got free booze!

From Halifax Airport, the best option is to rent a car and drive the scenic 85-minute route to Lunenburg. Check out the rental deals at rentalcars.com. You can rent a car for as low as $25 per day plus tax, insurance and airport fees.

And voila, the driving directions from Halifax airport to Lunenburg. If you have a few hours to spare on your way, take a side route to Peggy’s Cove, eastern Canada's famous and most beloved lighthouse.

There is no longer bus service between Halifax and Lunenburg. However, you can arrange for a shuttle from the airport directly to Lunenburg via Kiwi Kaboodle Tours. It is $135 for up to 4 people (each way) and $15 for each additional person.

By Car
Driving from Toronto to Lunenburg takes approximately 21 hours via Quebec and New Brunswick. [Google Directions] The midway point is Quebec City, which is a great place to spend exactly one night.

Driving from Boston to Lunenburg takes approximately 13 hours via Maine and New Brunswick. [Google Directions]

Road-trippers (especially those taking the route from the USA) also have the option of taking the Princess of Acadia ferry from Saint John, New Brunswick to Digby, Nova Scotia. There are 2 departures daily from Saint John, at noon and 11pm. The ferry is 3 hours, and in total this will save you only about an hour over driving around the Bay of Fundy. The cost is approximately $180 for two people and a car. So it’s probably worth it only if you really love ferries.

By Rail
VIA Rail offers train service from Toronto to Halifax via Montreal (usually you must change trains). Total travel time is approximately 28 hours. Book early (get the supersaver fare) and it’s about $420 for a round-trip ticket. From Halifax you can rent a car or take the shuttle mentioned above.
