RED FRIDAY More than 30,000 Palestinians poured into the narrow and labyrinthal alleyways of the Old City, trying to escape the confrontation on the Temple Mount. Children were put on shoulders. Shops were overrun. Vendors had their goods trampled. It was a miracle no one was killed in these streets. It took more than 45 minutes of human traffic to exit the old city through Damascus Gate from the Western Wall Plaza. Five Palestinians were killed that afternoon on the Temple Mount, and hundreds more injured. All over the West Bank and Gaza Strip, demonstrations and riots broke out in the name of the Al Aqsa Mosque. |
